Journal Club:
Cancer Discovery with Dr. Chris Jones

Moderated by: I-Mei Siu, PhD, Cancer Discovery Senior Editor
Recorded: 6/17/2020

Watch the recording of the AACR Virtual Journal Club: Cancer Discovery session, featuring Chris Jones, PhD from The Institute of Cancer Research as he presents his findings, recently published in the Cancer Discovery article: "Infant High-Grade Gliomas Comprise Multiple Subgroups Characterized by Novel Targetable Gene Fusions and Favorable Outcomes"

Infant high-grade gliomas in the cerebral hemispheres comprise novel subgroups, with a prevalence of ALK, NTRK1/2/3, ROS1, or MET gene fusions. Kinase fusion–positive tumors have better outcomes and respond to targeted therapy clinically. Other subgroups have poor outcomes, with fusion-negative cases possibly representing an epigenetically driven pluripotent stem cell phenotype.

Stay tuned for the Q&A session at the end of the recording.

About the Featured Speaker:

Dr. Jones serves as Professor of Childhood Brain Tumour Biology and Leader, Glioma Team Division of Molecular Pathology at The Institute of Cancer Research. His team focuses on scanning the genome and epigenome of pediatric brain tumours. Unique genetic drivers of pediatric high-grade glioma, not present in the adult disease, illustrate previously unappreciated connections between chromatin regulation, developmental signaling and cancer. One of the primary goals of his laboratory is to better understand the function of these genetic alterations in the context of pediatric gliomagenesis and to use this mechanistic insight to develop novel therapies for children with these tumours.
