Acuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values using hTERT gene expression in the detection of thyroid malignancy

All calculations were done as follows: (a) accuracy = 100 × [(number of benign without hTERT gene expression) + (number of malignant with hTERT gene expression)]/(total number of cases examined); (b) sensitivity = 100 × (number of malignant with hTERT gene expression)/(number of malignancy); (c) specificity = 100 × (number of benign without hTERT gene expression)/(number of benign); (d) positive predictive value = 100 × (number of malignant with hTERT gene expression)/(number of both benign and malignant with hTERT gene expression); and (e) negative predictive value = 100 × (number of benign without hTERT gene expression)/(number of both benign and malignant with hTERT gene expression).
