AACR's Mission

The mission of the American Association for Cancer Research is to prevent and cure cancer through research, education, communication, and collaboration. We work to pursue these goals through our eight, highly esteemed journals, scientific conferences, scientific policy and government affairs work, and funding of meritorious research. Founded in 1907, the AACR is the world's first and largest professional organization dedicated to advancing cancer research and its mission to prevent and cure cancer. AACR membership includes over 34,000 laboratory, translational and clinical researchers; population scientists; other health care professionals; and cancer advocates residing in more than 90 countries.


AACR Commitment to the Dissemination of Content and Support of Librarians

AACR is committed to the dissemination of content and support of librarians through:

  • development and support of the Principles for Free Access to Science, emphasizing the commitment of not-for-profit publishers to worldwide dissemination of science, within the context of proven and realistic publishing models, and supporting experimentation with new models.
  • participation in the HINARI Access to Research Initiative providing free or discounted access to the full text journal content to institutions in developing countries.
  • sponsorship of MLA and other library conferences, as well as, collaborating with ALPSP and SSP to the bring the best information to librarians' user communities.
  • online journal content to including historical material dating back to 1916 from the precursors of Cancer ResearchJournal of Cancer Research and the American Journal of Cancer Research, representing nearly 100 years of oncology research and development.
  • Freely available abstracts online, immediately following publication and to the full text, 1 year after publication.

Pay-Per-View Access

All AACR Journals offer pay-per-view access for current articles.

Two pay-per-view options are available for non-subscribing users needing temporary access to full-text articles.

  • Pay-per-View: $50.00 to purchase an article. This will require you to create an account if you don’t already have one.

To purchase access, click on the Purchase Access button located under the Log In feature.

Users without a subscription have access to journal search functions, the tables of contents, articles more than 1 year old, and the journal abstracts at no cost and without having to register.


Small Journal Portfolio, Big Impact

Our scientific breadth and merit attract the premier researchers in the field, and AACR journals continue to are rated among the most influential journals in cancer research and medicine. According the Journal Citation Report® (2016), the entire portfolio of AACR journals, which represent 3.8% of the 213 journals in the oncology category, garnered 17% of all citations in the same category. One half of the AACR journals rank in the top 20 in regard to Impact Factor in the Oncology category.
