Traction force map of migrating non-metastatic sarcoma cell. Cell tractions were computed from an unconstrained deconvolution of the gel surface displacement field measured before and after cell detachment with Cytochalasin D. White arrows show the direction of traction forces, the level of tractions is color-coded with red as highest. The non-metastatic cell, unlike derived high metastatic cells with highest tractions at the leading edge, generates tractions at the rear end and thus is not fit to force its way through ECM and effectively invade. For details, see the article by Rösel and colleagues on page 1410. - PDF Icon PDF LinkTable of Contents
