The cover shows fluorescence in situ hybridization of the U6 small nuclear RNA in normal respiratory tract pseudostratified epithelial cells (pink). U6 is a key RNA spliceosome complex component often used as a reference gene for miRNA measurements. The green signal is autofluorescence of connective tissue matrix in the submucosa. miRNA classification of aerodigestive epithelial tumors can be used clinically and as a means to understand cancer pathophysiology.
