The goal of this project is to develop a planning partnership for outreach activities related to the NIH U56 grant. The goal is to create new and strengthen existing community outreach programs for cancer prevention and control for Puerto Rican individuals living in Ponce, PR (the Island) and Florida (the Mainland) using social marketing as a model. This collaboration between Ponce School of Medicine (PSM) faculty and community partners with the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute (HLMCC) faculty and community partners, focuses on assessing community education needs in the areas of cancer prevention and control, and fostering the development of outreach programs that meet the needs of Puerto Ricans living on the island and the mainland. The initial venture for the teams will be to pilot a process to disseminate and assess the usability and feasibility of a series of booklets designed to prevent smoking relapse among pregnant and post-partum women. These booklets entitled, “Libres Para Siempre ¼ por mi bebe’ y por mi’ “, were transcreated from Dr. Brandon’s original “Forever Quit” program, a uniquely successful and cost effective intervention for preventing smoking relapse in the general adult population.
