Trump Picks New Surgeon General Free

May 8, 2025
President Donald Trump nominated Casey Means, MD, to serve as U.S. surgeon general. A health influencer with ties to the Make American Healthy Again movement, Means replaces Janette Nesheiwat, MD, a physician and former Fox News contributor whose nomination for the role was pulled when it emerged that she attended medical school in the Caribbean, despite claiming that she holds a medical degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. The surgeon general oversees the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and can issue public health advisories. The nominee must be confirmed by a majority of the Senate.
