Congress Announces Deal to Avert Shutdown Free

December 18, 2024
Yesterday evening, congressional leaders unveiled a short-term bill to prevent the U.S. government from shutting down at 12:01 am, December 21, when funding is set to expire. The bill, known as a continuing resolution (CR), would extend federal funding until March 14, pending the approval of both houses of Congress and President Joe Biden by the Friday deadline, and maintain fiscal year 2024 spending levels. However, the CR does include $110 billion more for disaster relief and an additional $10 billion in aid for farmers.
