AACR Releases 14th Annual Cancer Progress Report

September 18, 2024

Today, the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) released its 14th annual Cancer Progress Report, which provides the latest statistics on cancer incidence, mortality, and survivorship, and outlines how cancer research, largely supported by federal investments, is crucial to improving public health. The report also lists 15 new anticancer agents that it approved between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024, two which are for childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancers; 15 existing therapeutics were approved for new indications. Thanks to advances in cancer treatment, the report notes, the survival rate for children diagnosed with cancer in the United States has increased in recent years. But in adults, some cancers are on the rise—notably cervical cancer—and others, including breast and colorectal cancer, are being diagnosed at earlier ages.
