Laurie Glimcher, MD, announced that she will step away from her role as president and CEO of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). She will be succeeded at the Boston, MA–based center by Benjamin Ebert, MD, PhD, the current chair of the institute’s Department of Medical Oncology. The changes will take effect on October 1. Glimcher took the helm of DFCI in October 2016, becoming the 7th president in its 77-year history—and the first woman to lead the organization. DFCI noted that it added three regional locations under her leadership, bringing the total to seven. In addition, during her tenure, DFCI experienced a 51% increase in patient volume and a 62% jump in grant and industry-funded research support, for a total of $450 million in fiscal year 2023. Last year, she announced plans to build a new 300-bed inpatient hospital for adults with cancer.
