LGBTQ+ Individuals Vulnerable to Cancer Disparities

Abstract: Recent reports issued by the American Cancer Society say that LGBTQ+ individuals likely have a greater risk of cancer and fare worse than heterosexual patients because of numerous risk factors associated with the stress of systemic discrimination. To reduce treatment barriers, oncologists need training on how to provide culturally competent and tailored care. Further, more research and improved data collection could inform the development of specific treatments.
