The Cancer Research Data Commons (CRDC) serves a foundational role in the NCI’s cancer data ecosystem, empowering researchers by making nearly 10 petabytes of data FAIR—Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable—in line with the NIH’s Data Management and Sharing Policy. To commemorate ten years of the CRDC, this issue of Cancer Research features a four-part series on the CRDC’s standards and services, data commons, cloud resources, and future initiatives. The multilevel schematic depicted on the cover traces the flow of cancer research data from the bench or clinical studies to a secure data management and sharing ecosystem that facilitates and informs further research.
