Non-small cell lung cancer is one of the most lethal forms of cancer with five-year survival rates below 15%. Early detection of lung cancer can greatly improve survival; however, current diagnostic techniques such as chest X-rays suffer from high false-positive rates. In this article, Khemtong and colleagues describe a combination of αvβ3-targeted superparamagnetic nanoprobes and an offresonance saturation (ORS) method to provide cancer-specific imaging of A549 non-small cell lung tumor xenografts by MRI. This combination of the ORS method with ultrasensitive nanoprobe design offers improved sensitivity in molecular imaging of lung cancer. The cover image is a Prussian blue staining of a tumor tissue treated with cRGD-encoded nanoparticles showing targeted nanoparticles as a blue pattern closely associated with the αvβ3-expressing tumor vasculature. For details, see the article by Khemtong and colleagues on page 1651 of this issue.Close Modal - PDF Icon PDF LinkTable of Contents
