The identification of cancer specific genetic aberrations and signaling pathways by gene expression profiling holds great promise for the identification of genetargeted therapies. The authors, therefore, analyzed the gene expression profiles from 73 colon carcinomas (lymph node-negative and -positive) and 30 patientmatched normal colon mucosa. As seen in the upper panel, MYC occupied a central position among those genes most differentially expressed in the tumors (dark red/green). Multi dimensional analysis (MDA) based on gene expression differences showed separation of lymph node-negative and -positive tumors (lower left) and to a greater extent normal mucosa and colon carcinoma (lower right).
