The gene expression program of any particular cell largely defines its identity and its functions. I will describe new insights into the roles that transcription factors and chromatin regulators play in the control of gene expression programs during normal development and in cancer. These insights provide opportunities for the development of novel therapeutics for cancer and other diseases.
