Autochthonous rat hepatomas induced by 2-acetylaminofluorene were found to have antigenic components in common which were not detected in normal rat liver. The hepatoma antigens were also detected in cultured cells established from the hepatoma. Antigenic components present in normal liver were also found.

Sections from 6 hepatoma nodules, 2 each from individual rats, were examined by the indirect fluorescent antibody technic with 6 rabbit antisera prepared against microsomes of each nodule. Each of the antisera gave positive results with essentially all the hepatoma nodules after exhaustive absorption with normal liver. Two antisera against normal rat liver gave no reaction with hepatoma after such treatment.
