Papillomas have occurred in the skin beneath the lower bill and on the web of the foot of white Pekin ducks treated locally with methylcholanthrene. Both areas of skin are devoid of feathers. Hemangiomas have occurred on the web of the foot of these birds, but this tumor has never been observed to develop in the skin beneath the bill. It is obvious from this study that papillomas may develop from epithelial cells not associated with feather follicles. The variation in the response of different epithelial surfaces on the body of the same host to the same carcinogen is shown in this study.
