Jonathan D. Licht, MD, and David C. Beyer, MD, are highlighted.

Jonathan D. Licht, MD, an internationally recognized expert in blood cancers, has been appointed director of the University of Florida (UF) Health Cancer Center, Gainesville, effective October 1. Succeeding Paul Okunieff, MD, he joins UF in the midst of its effort to obtain NCI designation as one of the nation's top cancer centers.

Licht previously served as the associate director for clinical sciences at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. He was also a professor and chief of the division of hematology/oncology, as well as a professor of biochemistry and molecular genetics, at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He studies aberrant gene regulations as a cause of blood cancers and is developing treatment strategies to reverse abnormal, cancer-causing gene functions.

Licht serves on the editorial board of multiple peer-reviewed cancer journals. He has published more than 170 articles, reviews, and book chapters. He is also a member of the executive committee of the American Society of Hematology.

David C. Beyer, MD, medical director of Arizona Oncology Services in Scottsdale, will begin a 1-year term as president of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) at the organization's annual meeting on October 20. He succeeds Bruce D. Minsky, MD.

An active clinician, Beyer specializes in treating prostate cancer. He employs multiple types of radiation, including brachytherapy (both high-dose-rate brachytherapy and seed implants), intensity-modulated radiation therapy, and image-guided radiation therapy. He has served on multiple ASTRO committees, including a stint on its Board of Directors from 2007 to 2011. A graduate of the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, Beyer completed his residency in radiation oncology at the University of California, Los Angeles.
