Q: What is your primary area of study/research?
A: Cancer Biomarkers and Translational Control in Mammalian Cells
Q: What influenced your decision to embark on a research career?
A: I have always been attracted to the challenges of unknown scientific discoveries. The ability and freedom to pursue one's own scientific ideas in the experimental laboratory. Until we truly understand the basic cellular mechanisms in normal cells, how can we possibly really understand what happens when cellular processes are dysregulated in diseases like cancer?
Q; What excites you most about your research area?
A: The challenge of identifying biomarkers for early detection that can ultimately lead to accurate tests for ovarian and lung cancers, which are able to detect these cancers early and save lives. I am also highly interested in the biology of these biomarkers and how they might contribute to carcinogenesis and how they become dysregulated in cancer.
Q: What do you do for fun outside of work? What are your passions outside of work?
A: I like sailing (one-design racing), skiing (downhill and cross-country), and enjoy pottery.
